Matthew Schear, D.O. is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery. He attended Binghamton University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychobiology. Dr. Schear then went on to complete his medical degree at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine. Graduating at the top of his class, he was elected to become an academic medical scholar while also attaining a Master’s degree in neuro-musculoskeletal sciences.
Following medical school, Dr. Schear completed an internship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He then began his ophthalmology residency at North-Shore/LIJ-Northwell Health where he served as chief resident in his final year. After residency, he completed a fellowship in cornea, external diseases and refractive surgery at the world-renowned Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in NYC.
Dr. Schear performs the latest and most advanced forms of cataract surgery, pterygium surgery, LASIK/PRK and corneal transplant including DSAEK, DMEK, and DALK. He has a special interest in the management of severe dry eye and keratoconus.
Throughout his training, Dr. Schear has been extensively involved in research, publishing over 25 peer-reviewed articles, textbook chapters and abstracts. His research has been presented both nationally and internationally. Dr. Schear is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, The Cornea Society, The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the New York State Ophthalmologic Society. He is Board-Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is very excited to both live and practice here in the Hudson Valley.
